Possibility of Changing Your Place of Study and/or Field of Study
With the introduction of the Bachelor and Masters programs in the course of the “Bologna Process”, and the gradual phasing-out of the previous Dilpom at German universities, it is becoming increasingly difficult for students to keep track of things in the case of a change in the place of study and/or field of study. For this reason we would like to briefly inform you about your possibilities in the business administration course at the University of Mannheim.
Students of the University of Mannheim
Change From Diplom to Bachelor
If you are already studying Diplom in business administration at the University of Mannheim, a simple change to bachelor is in principle not possible!
However, you have the chance to apply anew for a place in the bachelor program in the autumn/winter semester. Please note that, in the event of a course change, you can be put into the third semester at the very highest. You will be given credit for achievements from previous courses as long as they are on an equal footing as those of the new course of studies. A shortening of the standard period of study of 6 semesters is, however, not possible, i.e. the studies are to be carried out according to the plan of study. The board of examiners for business administration (
Prüfungsausschuss für Betriebswirtschaftlehre) is responsible for the recognition of previously visited courses.
All the information about the structure and content of the bachelor studies, as well as the application and selection processes, can be found
here.
Students from Other Universities
Change to Diplom in Mannheim
Since the introduction of the bachelor in the autumn/winter semester 2006, it is no longer possible to switch to the Diplom in business administration as a result of its discontinuation. This applies to the Grundstudium (undergraduate studies) as well as the Hauptstudium (graduate studies). We would also like to point out that, along with the Diplom, the “Business Administration with Intercultural Qualification” course (BWL mit interkultureller Qualifikation (BWL mit i.Q.)) is also to be discontinued.
Instead of this, you have the opportunity to apply to go into the first semester of the bachelor, or into a higher semester, for the autumn/winter semester. You can, however, only be put into the third semester at the very highest.
In both cases, you will be given credit for achievements from previous courses as long as they are on an equal footing as those of the new course of studies. A shortening of the standard period of study is, however, not possible, i.e. the studies are to be carried out according to the plan of study. The board of examiners for business administration (
Prüfungsausschuss für Betriebswirtschaftlehre) is responsible for the recognition of courses.

Change to the Bachelor in Mannheim
If you are already at another university studying Bachelor of business administration, you have the opportunity to apply to go straight into a higher semester for the autumn/winter semester. You can, however, only be put into the third semester at the very highest. If your Bachelor is in a field other than business administration, you can apply for the first semester.
In both cases, you will be given credit for achievements from previous courses as long as they are on an equal footing as those of the new course of studies. A shortening of the standard period of study is, however, not possible, i.e. the studies are to be carried out according to the plan of study. The board of examiners for business administration (

Change to the Masters Program in Mannheim
