Sebastian Gehrlein holds a master's degree in Industrial Engineering (M.Sc.) from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) where he also graduated with a bachelor’s degree (B.Sc.). In his studies, he focused on topics in supply chain management, product lifecycle management and materials science. He gained international experience at Luleå University of Technology, Sweden, where he deepened his knowlegde in production planning.
He gathered practical experience during several internships in the automotive industry, the chemical industry and the mechanical engineering industry. He mainly dealt with supply management and quality management topics as well as with strategic planning issues. During his studies he worked as a student research assistant at the KIT’s Department of Economics and Management.
His research interests focus on firms' resilience capabilities in case of disruptions in complex supply chains. Besides considering organizational factors that influence firms' resilience capabilities, he intends to broaden the body of literature by emphasizing including personal factors of the people that deal with disruptions and their consequences within the firms and that have to make decisions under uncertainty in case of a disruption. Furthermore, he researches the digital transformation of procurement and sustainability-related issues.
