The Mannheim Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation (MCEI) is inviting all startup teams that have emerged at the University of Mannheim and/ or have been created by University of Mannheim student or alumni teams (at least one team member with affiliation) in 2018 to participate in the MCEI Seed Award 2019.
Are you the best University of Mannheim Startup created in 2018?
The MCEI Seed Award is endowed with a 10,000 EUR prize money to help your startup grow – no strings attached, no equity taken.
As an applicant startup-team you should meet the following criteria:
- Your startup is in the early, pre-seed, or seed-funding stage.
- You 'hit the market' in 2018 by showing implementation: e.g., go-to-market, well-documented minimum viable product (MVP) or prototype.
- Your team is composed of at least two people out of which at least one co-founder has a University of Mannheim affiliation (student, alumna/ alumnus).
- You formalized your startup in 2018 (legal form is optional for applying, but you must provide your plan for obtaining a legal form and have a business account to receive the prize money).
- Your business model is scalable and growth-oriented.
The MCEI Seed Award includes two consecutive rounds: In the first round, an independent expert jury will evaluate your application (pitch deck) and decide on the three finalists. In the second round, the three finalists will be invited to the competitive pitches at the MCEI Seed Award 2019 Finals on February 19, 2019 (Café L3, Mannheim). The startup team with the best pitch will be awarded with the prize money of 10,000 EUR. Startups are allowed to further advance/ update their pitch deck for the final round (staying with the same project is a requirement).
How to apply
We are looking for teams that are highly motivated, idea-driven and energetic. The business model should be clearly and concisely explained and validated - demonstrate traction and scalability. The pitch deck should be state of the art and have a business angel/ investor audience as its target group. While not a prerequisite, a short intro video can make a lasting impression. How much impact will your business create and when will you scale your business to the next level? Be ambitious but avoid vague or inflated language. Include a max 12 slides pitch deck (PDF) with all the relevant elements that should be included for a business angel/ investor audience at the core of your application. The pitch deck should be in English, but German is also possible. No other languages allowed.
Interested in obtaining a 10,000 EUR seed round with no strings attached? Send your pitch deck and a short explanation (1 page max) on how you meet the criteria to seedaward(at)mcei.de. Application deadline is January 15, 2019 by 11:59 pm (no exceptions being granted).
The three finalists will be notified by the first week of February 2019. The final competitive pitches and award ceremony will be held in the context of the Startup Lounge Opening 2019 (Startup Lounge #60) in Café L3 on February 19, 2019 as of 7:30 pm. Save the date!
