Unfortunately, this year’s graduation ceremonies can not take place as usual. We are currently working together with representatives from the student body on possible solutions such as hosting an online ceremony. As soon as we have more information, we will reach out to all graduates.
A postponement of the graduation festivities to next year is also not ruled out. However, detailed plans for this are neither sensible nor feasible at the moment.
Start of Fall Semester
The Ministry for Science, Research and Art (Ministerium für Wissenschaft, Forschung und Kunst Baden-Württemberg) has determined to postpone the start of the fall semester 2020 to November 1. The University of Mannheim is currently negotiating whether we can start as early as the end of September.
- Why are attendance exams not possible?
The currently valid measures on assuring hygienic standards make examinations with student attendance very difficult. The room capacities of the University are exceeding the needed room to ensure distance regulations. In addition, there is the risk that the regulations will tighten up again and local attendance will again won’t be possible. We then would be unprepared. With the decision of online exams, we can at least guarantee them to take place.
- What happens if I do not meet the technical requirements for online exams?
Please contact our program managers (Sophie Holschneider for the Bachelor’s program Business Administration, Julia Dreisbach for the MMM, Christian Mayer for the Bachelor's and Master's program Economic and Business Education), if you are concerned that you won’t be able to take the online exams.
- What is planned for the alternate examination dates?
Since the correction of the online exams may take longer than usual and the start of the fall semester has not yet been fixed, we are currently discussing the possibility of postponing the examination phase to the alternate dates. You will be informed as soon as more detailed information is available.
- In the MMM, can we register directly for the alternate examination dates?
A direct sign up for the alternate dates in the MMM is only possible for the Core Courses. If you are registered on the first date of an exam and wish to withdraw from the exam, you can present “Corona” as a reason and do not need a medical certificate. You will then automatically be registered for the alternate date. The form for withdrawal can be found here.
- What does “Open Book Exam” mean?
During an open book exam you are allowed to use your study materials such as books, scripts, notes and so forth. An open-book-exam does not test your knowledge on facts and definitions, the focus lies on the understanding of the content as well as the ability to apply your knowledge in transfer exercises.
Please do not hesitate to contact the International Team with questions concerning your semester abroad. Your respective contact person is Katharina Dröghoff (Double Degrees, IBEA and Guanghua), Julia Silber (Bachelor's Outgoings) and Cathrin Rieger (Master's Outgoings).
Current opening hours and seat bookings for the libraries can be found on the blog of the University Library.
