First Double Degree with Chinese University launched in Bachelor's Program of Business Administration

The double degree allows five students per year to study at the Guanghua School of Management at Beijing University for two years.

The visit confirms the German-Chinese friendship between the University of Mannheim and Peking University, which has been lasting for the past ten years: At the beginning of December, a Chinese delegation came to Mannheim to meet the five candidates of the new double degree program. This double degree is the first of its kind in the Business Administration Bachelor's program of the University of Mannheim. The third semester students applied for the program in September this year and will start studying at the renowned Peking University starting in the fall/winter semester of 2020. They will spend two years in East Asia, after which they will have earned two degrees: the Bachelor's in Business Administration (B.Sc.) from the University of Mannheim and the Bachelor's in Management (B.A.) from the Guanghua School of Management.

The predecessor of today's Guanghua School of Management, which was renamed in 1994, was founded at Peking University in 1985 and is one of the leading business schools in China. More than 3,000 students are enrolled in its Bachelor's, Master's and Doctoral programs . The school also offers MBA and EMBA courses. Beijing University initiated the “Future Leaders” double degree program for Bachelor's students in early 2019 with 13 other international business schools, including other schools which partner with Mannheim such as the ESSEC Business School in France and Queen's University in Canada. The program is intended to give the international student cohort the opportunity to acquire a deeper understanding of China in addition to their training as future leaders.

The Business School of the University of Mannheim has been offering double degree programs for more than 20 years, but so far only in the Mannheim Master in Management program. In the Master's program, students can choose from seven double degrees including universities in France, Italy, Canada or the USA. In addition to the mandatory semester abroad in their fifth semester, Bachelor's students can also apply for the IBEA program, where they can complete three international placements in a total of eight semesters in Singapore, the USA and Brazil. The Guanghua Double Degree Program adds another attractive opportunity to the portfolio.
