At BASF, we create chemistry for a sustainable future combing economic success with environmental protection and social responsibility. The approximately 114,000 employees in the BASF Group work on contributing to the success of our customers in nearly all sectors and almost every country in the world. BASF acknowledges the potential for change and improvement that is inherent to digital transformation. It therefore drives it through the launch of the BASF 4.0 project, the supercomputer “Quriosity” (#95 in the world-ranking 2018) as well as the “Advanced Business Analytics” group which is responsible for providing data-driven innovative solutions in business and operations. We will present how BASF is organized to manage the challenges of digitalization and thereby present how the cooperation between interdisciplinary fields like Operations Research, Data Science and Information Science is required in analytical projects. In some selected topics we show how this cooperation in combination with state-of-the-art technologies and methodologies helps to improve processes.
