“Nonprofit organizations operate in a field with increasing tensions between social and economic goals. On the one hand, they aim at accomplishing their social mission. On the other, economic demands rise due to commercialization and professionalization in the sector.
In our research project „Goal Importance Congruence in Hybrid Organizations“, we conceptualize nonprofit organizations as hybrid organizations, that is to say organizations with multiple, potentially conflicting goals. Specifically, we assess within social service organizations in how far employees share perceptions regarding the importance of organizational goals with other organizational members and how these perceptions relate to their work behavior. Moreover, we analyze how organizational identification and the assessment of the appropriateness of the multiple goals affect this relationship between goal importance congruence and work outcomes.”
