The presence of customer substitution poses substantial challenges to a firm’s inventory management. In the paper “Multi-Product Inventory Management under Customer Substitution and Capacity Restrictions”, Dr. Schlapp derives together with Prof. Moritz Fleischmann, holder of the Chair of Logistics and Supply Chain Management at the University of Mannheim, the optimal inventory policy for a capacity-constrained firm selling multiple partially substitutable products over a finite season in a market with stockout-based customer substitution.

“I am very pleased that our paper has been accepted for publication in such a top-ranked journal and I hope that with this contribution, the question of how inventory managers have to deal with customer substitution will be more prevalent in the scientific and practical debate.”, says Dr. Schlapp.

“Operations Research” is one of the leading journals for operations research and widely considered an A+journal.
