Prof. Dr. Jens Förderer

Jens Förderer is Professor of Information Systems and Chair of the Information Systems II department at the Business School of the University of Mannheim since 2025.
His research empirically evaluates how digital technologies — particularly artificial intelligence, analytics, social media, and digital platforms — shape corporate strategies and market structures.
His work has been published in the leading academic journals in business, including Management Science, Information Systems Research, and MIS Quarterly. In research rankings such as the reputed Wirtschaftswoche ranking, he is consistently ranked among the most productive scholars under 40 in Germany; based on publications in top-tier (“A+") journals, he is ranked number one. He was also named to the prestigious Top 40 under 40 list by Capital magazine, which recognizes the most promising talents in business, academia, and society across German-speaking countries.
His research has been supported by highly competitive grants, including a €1.49 million ERC Starting Grant from the European Research Council and projects funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG).
He serves as a reviewer for leading academic journals and funding organizations, including Management Science, the German Research Foundation (DFG), and the German-American Fulbright Commission. In addition, he is regularly consulted by media outlets such as Handelsblatt and Die ZEIT for expert opinions.
He holds a B.Sc. (2011), M.Sc. (2013), and Ph.D. (2017) from the University of Mannheim. In 2019, he was appointed to a tenure-track position at the TUM School of Management at the Technical University of Munich, where he earned tenure in 2023. From 2023 to 2024, he was a visiting scholar at the Oxford Internet Institute, University of Oxford.
