Professor Brauer holds the Chair of Strategic and International Management at the University of Mannheim. His research focus is on issues of corporate development and business transformation.

Short Bio

Prof. Dr. oec. Matthias Brauer joined the faculty of Mannheim as Professor of Strategic and International Management at the start of 2014. Previously, he held a position as Associate Professor of Strategic Management at the University of St. Gallen and University of Luxembourg and has received various job offers at renowned European research universities (e.g., Rotterdam School of Management, Warwick Business School, University of Cologne).

His primary area of expertise is on issues of corporate development and business transformation. Recent manuscripts on these research topics have appeared or are forthcoming, in leading international journals including the Academy of Management Journal, Strategic Management Journal, Strategic Organization, Journal of Management, Journal of Management Studies, British Journal of Management, or Journal of World Business, and Corporate Governance: An International Review. For his research activities, he also received several national and international awards by the Academy of Management, the Strategic Management Society, the University of St.Gallen and the Latsis Foundation.

He is part of the core faculty of the Mannheim Business School (MBS) and regularly teaches courses on Strategic Management, Corporate Strategy, Corporate Restructuring and Mergers & Acquisitions in the various MBA, Executive MBA and inhouse programs of MBS. Additionally, he actively functions as an instructor and coach for companies in the automotive, energy, financial services, healthcare, transportation and utilities industries.
