Lukas Basler

Lukas Basler has been a doctoral student at the Endowed Chair of Procurement since September 2026. He completed his M.Sc. in Economics at the University of Mannheim, where he also spent a semester abroad at the Solvay Brussels School of Economics and Management. His master's thesis examined how global supply chain bottlenecks affect industrial production and producer prices in Germany and the United States.

He earned his B.Sc. in Economics at the University of Mannheim as well, with a further semester abroad at the University of Edinburgh. The Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung awarded him a scholarship in recognition of his academic record and his volunteer work.

Alongside his studies, he gained experience in different research assistantships. At the Chair of Economic Policy (Prof. Dr. Grüner) at the University of Mannheim, he worked as a student research assistant and contributed to Dr. Daniel Linnenbrink's paper “Optimality of One-Stage Mechanisms in Asymmetric Electricity Networks.” At ZEW – Leibniz Centre for European Economic Research, he worked in the Pensions and Sustainable Financial Markets unit on macroeconomic forecasting, geopolitical risk analysis, and the empirical validation of ZEW indices.

He also gained practical experience at the intersection of corporate finance and procurement. As a working student at STATEC Bühnentechnik GmbH, he supported an export financing arrangement and developed approaches to optimize payment flows and mitigate risk. Before that, he worked as a research assistant at Russell Reynolds Associates in Executive Search & Board Services.

His research interests lie in supply chain risk management and supply chain shocks.
