Our goal: To promote and explore the explanatory skills of prospective teachers in business didactics
Explanations are of high importance for the comprehension of the learning content and occur with high frequency as well as duration in the classroom. In the project, which is part of the teaching in the Master of Business Education in cooperation with the University of Konstanz (JProf. Dr. Stefanie Findeisen), future teachers improve their ability to explain economic concepts in a comprehensible way addressing their audience adequately. They are filmed and evaluate their individual explanation situations analytically in partner work, so that also research-methodical expertise is acquired. As a product of the project, a digital teaching-learning tool is to be made available for student teachers, which can be adapted to various disciplines.
Our approach: Design of a digital university didactic explanation training and research of its effectiveness in an experimental setting
Explanatory ability is assessed longitudinally using a videotaped interactive simulation in which prospective teachers explain subject concepts to learners. Between the two data collection points, students receive intervention training during the semester. On the research side, the design of the seminar is used to explore the extent to which prospective teachers' explanatory skills can be learned in college and transferred to new situations, what factors positively promote the development of explanatory skills, and what influence teachers' explanatory skills ultimately exert on learners' understanding. Findings on these fundamental questions are central to understanding the development of explanatory ability and its importance for learners' understanding and to promoting it in the education of teachers.
Currently, the project is financed by own funds within the basic equipment of the participating chairs.
