INTERCONNECT – Vocational Interaction and Competence Development

Our goal:

Development of fair examination tasks and identification of success factors for competence and identity development

INTERCONNECT investigates commercial examinations in the context of questions concerning the quality of in-company training. The research activities focus on the development of valid examination tasks as well as on the investigation of the operational conditions influencing the development of commercial competencies. The project is funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) and takes place in cooperation with the University of Duisburg-Essen.

Our approach:

3 survey dates for industrial clerks by means of competence-oriented examination tasks and a validated instrument for measuring the quality of in-company training and for recording the development of professional identity.

To ensure that the competencies of commercial trainees are recorded as realistically as possible, competency-oriented test items are used. These test items are processed in complete business processes and require thinking in terms of holistic processes in the context of the company. A standardized tool (VET-LQI) is used to record learning conditions in the workplace, which does not allow any conclusions to be drawn about individual companies. The developed measuring instruments offer the possibility of transferring into school examination practice and can be used in the future to draw conclusions about the quality of trainees' learning processes and to provide access to support measures. The target group consists of industrial clerks who participate in the study at the beginning, during, and at the end of their training.
