Prof. Dr. Bernd Helmig

The scientists at the chair of Business Administration, Public & Nonprofit Management of professor Helmig, conduct research projects on different topics dealing with professional management in organizations, aiming at contributing to the public weal. 

The mission of the chair is to generate and transfer knowledge to management of organizations oriented to the public weal. This knowledge is generated by means of fundamental research, as well as applied research, and contract research. Furthermore, this knowledge is also transferred to the public by means of publications (articles in scientific journals, practitioner magazines, books), university courses (BA, MA, PhD), continuing education activities (MBA programs, executive programs, in-house programs, seminars, talks) and projects with practice partners.

Dr. Alexander presents evaluation project at the fishbowl discussion event organized by FUSO.MA

On 4 April 2019, Dr. Alexander Pinz participated in the fishbowl discussion event organized by the student initiative FUSO.MA (Forum for Firms and Social Organizations in Mannheim e. V.). There, he presented the cooperation of the Chair for Public and Nonprofit Management with FUSO.MA with the objective to evaluate the work FUSO.MA has been doing.

Guest lecture and coding workshop – Solange Hai, Program Manager, Care Netherlands

On Friday, 12 April 2019, Solange Hai, Program Manager at Care Netherlands, gave a guest lecture on the topic “Research in Practice: A Case from Care” in our research seminar MAN 710. In addition, she coached students during a coding workshop that aimed at making them familiar with qualitative data analysis.

Dr. Alexander Pinz gives kids lecture

On Wednesday, 20th of March 2019 Dr. Alexander Pinz gave a lecture for fourth grade children as part of the project “Uni-Cleverlinge”, a cooperation of the Mannheim Business School and the nonprofit organization “Kinderhelden”. Topic of the lecture was: “What is a business?”.

Guest lecture - Dr. Gerhard Mersmann, City of Mannheim

On Friday, 15th February 2019 (10:15 am - 11:45 am), Dr. Gerhard Mersmann, head of human resources and organization at the city of Mannheim, gave a guest lecture in our bachelor course “Introduction to Public Management.” Dr. Mersmann presented on public service and leadership as well as modernization and change management.

For the first time, our chair offers the course “Management“ as Massive Open Online Course (MOOC).

 

PhD Seminar „Hard Questions about Public Service Motivation”

On 23rd November 2018, Martin Sievert presents the current research project “Public Service Motivation in Third-Sector Research” in a Ph.D. seminar at the University of Utrecht, Netherlands. The seminar is held each year by the special interest group on public service motivation of the International Research Society for Public Management (IRSPM) to provide a forum for Ph.D. students.

Doctoral Fellowship Seminar at 47th ARNOVA Conference

Simon Thimmel will present the research project „employee resilience in nonprofit organizations“ at this year’s Doctoral Fellowship Seminar of the 47th ARNOVA Conference. The internationally renowned conference of nonprofit management research is organized by the Association for Research on Nonprofit Organizations and Voluntary Action and takes place in Austin, Texas (15. – 17. November).

Library

The library of the Chair of Business Administration, Public & Nonprofit Management is located in L5, 4 on the second floor (rooms 207/209). It holds a wide range of relevant literature and thus helps students work on their research projects. The library is primarily directed at the needs of students with a specialization in Public & Nonprofit Management. Moreover, the library contains literature on general business administration and a variety of seminal works on research methods.
