Dr. Christiane Malke, StB, Dipl.-Kffr., MPA (University of Texas, Austin), Employee of the SAP Group Tax Department in Walldorf

My studies at the University of Mannheim, specializing in business taxation, auditing and tax law, provided me with a broad range of specialist knowledge. During my work as a research assistant at Professor (emer.) Jacobs and Professor Spengel I was also able to deepen my knowledge of international tax law, coordinate projects and teach. All this has prepared me comprehensively for my current position in the tax department of an international group. My responsibilities here include accounting in accordance with IFRS with regard to the Group tax rate, tax policy issues and tax support for Group companies. Not least in this environment it is always a pleasure to work together with Mannheim students and graduates”.

As a research assistant at Professor Spengel's chair and at the Centre for European Economic Research (ZEW), I have gained valuable project experience in research and policy consulting. I was able to deepen and supplement the skills I had learned during my studies. For my career in the management of the MDAX company Fuchs Petrolub SE, this well-founded academic education was the key to a rapid professional advancement.

Dr. Ralf U. Braunagel, StB, Dipl. Kfm., MBLT, Partner in M&A Tax at PwC in Frankfurt and Stuttgart

Regardless of whether companies are operatte regionally or internationally – taxes play a role in every decision. As one of the world's leading international tax consulting firms, PwC supports companies in complex tax issues – from the initial idea to its actual implementation. Creative and individual consulting approaches as well as interdisciplinary know-how are a basic prerequisite for developing tailor-made solutions together with our clients. As an internationally renowned alma mater, the University of Mannheim prepares optimally for a future career as a consultant within the framework of its studies in business administration and tax law: a variety of specialization opportunities – also outside the lecture hall in the numerous student initiatives -, an ambitious and internationally oriented range of courses – with top-class representatives from practice – as well as progressive teaching and research approaches. I still benefit from the knowledge I have gained. As well as from the network I was allowed to establish during my studies and doctoral studies. Through my continuous commitment to MaFAT e.V., I still work closely with Area Accounting & Taxation and in particular the Chair of ABWL & Business Taxation II. I hope to promote the attractiveness of business taxation and tax law as well as the accessibility for students to practice”.

For me, the selection criterion for applying to study in Mannheim was the excellent national and international reputation of the university. That this is not only a theoretical promise, but that the acquired professional and personal competences are also of the greatest practical relevance in addition to their application in science, I was able to experience from the very first day of my professional activity. The knowledge gained during my studies in Mannheim and the subsequent doctorate – especially in the field of business tax theory – has proven its worth at various professional stations, which include not only Big4 companies but also larger medium-sized consulting firms and the current independence, and offers an excellent starting point for further professional and personal development”.
