Dr. Tobias Schimmer, Chief Development Expert at SAP, is new honorary professor of the University of Mannheim, Business School. For his outstanding achievement for the Business School, he received the certificate of appointment by Dean Prof. Dr. Christian Becker in September. He teaches at the Chair of Business Informatics, Prof. Dr. Armin Heinzl.
Tobias Schimmer did his Master’s and Doctoral degree in business informatics (“Wirtschaftsinformatik”) at the University of Mannheim. As a doctoral candidate, he also spent some time as visiting researcher at the University of California in Irvine, California. He then took on a position as an assistant professor in Mannheim before joining SAP in 2009. He took over program office responsibility for the lean and agile transformation in SAP’s global development organization. As next steps, he introduced Design Thinking and Business Model Innovation practices in development and coached several strategic product innovations, such as SAP Fashion Management and Sports One. After returning to Irvine in 2018, Schimmer became one of the co-founders and chief product owner for the new SAP Innovation Center in Newport Beach, California. Ever since joining SAP in 2009, he was teaching agile software engineering, design thinking and business model innovation as a hands-on master class and project seminar at the University of Mannheim. As honorary professor, Tobias keeps implementing SAP in Southern California.
