
Prof. Dr. Monika Schuhmacher is a professor of business administration specializing in technology, innovation, and start-up management, as well as director of the ECM start-up center at Justus Liebig University in Giessen. In her current position, she researches and teaches on the topics of technology and innovation management and strategic entrepreneurship. In addition, she advises companies on projects related to innovation management, open innovation, corporate venturing, and the introduction and acceptance of digital technologies, especially AI. Through humest GmbH, a company she founded, she supports organizations in applying artificial intelligence in a human-centered way in practice.
Monika Schuhmacher studied business administration at the University of Mannheim, where she also completed her doctorate and habilitation in the field of innovation and marketing. In 2016, she took over the Chair of Technology, Innovation, and Start-up Management at Justus Liebig University Giessen. Her research has been funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG), among others, and published in leading international journals such as the Journal of Management Studies, Journal of Business Venturing, Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice, Journal of Product Innovation Management, and Journal of Business Research. She has also been a guest lecturer at Copenhagen Business School (Denmark) and ESSEC Business School (France).
Her research interests include decision-making behavior in innovation management, the marketing of technology-based innovations, error culture in innovation processes, barriers to acceptance and use of artificial intelligence, entrepreneurial finance, and start-up team formation. The results of her work have been presented at international conferences and awarded best paper awards. In addition to her research, Monika Schuhmacher is heavily involved in teaching: she regularly teaches at Bachelor's, Master's, MBA, and executive levels at national and international universities.
