1st Heinrich Lecture hosted by Johannes Kepler University (JKU) Linz, Austria

Prof. Dr. Armin Heinzl holds guest lecture at the first Heinrich Lecture organized by the Institute of Business Informatics – Information Engineering at the Johannes Kepler University (JKU) in Linz, Austria.

The institute of Business Informatics – Information Engineering at the Johannes Kepler University in Linz, Austria initiated the lecture series “Lutz J. Heinrich Lecture” in spring 2021 in honor of the 85th birthday of Prof. emeritus Dr. Lutz J. Heinrich. Heinrich is a pioneer and founder of the German-speaking business informatics community and was significantly responsible for the institutionalization of business informatics at Johannes Kepler University in Linz. The Lutz J. Heinrich Lecture, which will be held annually, will invite renowned experts from the field of business informatics and will deal with the topic of digitalization.

Prof. Dr. Armin Heinzl laid the foundation for a successful lecture series with his keynote on the topic “Platform Ecosystems – Foundations, Governance and Launch” on May 31, 2021. In his lecture, he addressed the fundamentals of platform ecosystems and dealt with platform governance, which constitutes a key challenge for platform success. After a brief introduction to formal governance mechanisms, Prof. Dr. Armin Heinzl discussed mechanisms of informal governance on the basis of scientific studies recently published in the A+ journal “Information Systems Research”. Prof. Dr. Armin Heinzl concluded his lecture by highlighting challenges related to platform launch, as well as political and social implications.

Prof. Dr. Armin Heinzl got to know Prof. emeritus Dr. Lutz J. Heinrich in 1989 as a companion and mentor and published with him the textbook “Wirtschaftsinformatik, Einführung und Grundlegung”. He congratulates the jubilarian on his 85th birthday and wishes him all the best and, above all, good health.
