Paul Hellstern Receives Studien­preis für Nachhaltigkeit

Paul Hellstern from the Chair of Service Operations Management received „Studien­preis für Nachhaltigkeit“ for his master's thesis. The thesis, entitled "Choice-based Airline Planning and Scheduling under Sustainability Considerations,“ investigates how passenger sustainability preferences can be incorporated into airline itinerary design and fleet assignment by an extended optimization model and shows that only small changes in sustainability preferences can have a significant effect on the fleet composition and overall fuel consumption. It helps airlines to react to increasing regulatory pressures, while offering passengers more sustainable flight options.
