Wissenschaftliches Symposium „Supply Management“ 2020 – Another successful edition in Mannheim

The 2020 Academic Symposium „Supply Management“ of the German Association Supply Chain Management, Procurement, and Logistics (BME), took place on March 9–10 at the University of Mannheim.

The Endowed Chair of Procurement had the pleasure to host the 13th edition of the Academic Symposium „Supply Management" of the German Association Supply Chain Management, Procurement, and Logistics (BME), the major procurement-related academic conference in Germany. This was already for the fourth time straight that this conference took place in the castle of Mannheim.

The conference targets researchers and research-interested managers in the area of supply chain management. Besides two paper tracks (for academic and for practitioner contributions), the program includes the presentation final of the prestigious „Hans Ovelgönne“ doctoral dissertation award for the best dissertation in the field of supply chain management, procurement, and logistics. In this year's competition, two of our former team members – Dr. Maximilian Merath and Dr. Michael Westerburg – were nominated as finalists, but finished runner-up. The high-caliber jury decided to give the 2020 award to Dr. Christian Mandl (TU München).

As part of the BME Pfalz/Rhein-Neckar annual program, the conference also featured a panel discussion on software procurement with Janina Goldberg (Audi), Johannes Deichmann (McKinsey & Company), and Reinald Schneller (Netfira). Moderated by Prof. Bode, the expert panelists discussed the challenges, processes, and operating models for software procurement.

Finally, the conference dinner offered the conference participants a great opportunity to socialize and network in a cosy location at the river Rhine.

The next edition (the 14th) of the Academic Symposium „Supply Management“ will take place on March 8–9, 2021 at the University of Mannheim. Please save-the-date – We look forward to seeing you again next year!
