Mannheim MBA FT Class of 2023 Honored at the AMBA & BGA Excellence Awards

The initiative was part of the class’ Social Class Project and aimed to actively support the planned planting of 1,000 new trees per year in Mannheim. Partner organizations included the City of Mannheim, in particular the Stadtraumservice, as well as MVV, which provided detailed soil maps of the city to facilitate the implementation of the project.
To identify suitable locations for different tree species, the students formed teams that measured, photographed, and mapped more than 1,400 potential planting sites across six districts of Mannheim. The collected data were subsequently consolidated by a dedicated analysis team, combining them with satellite data and MVV grid plans to create a detailed digital map. According to the Stadtraumservice, this map has been actively used to further advance the 1,000 Trees Project.
Through this project, the Mannheim MBA FT Class of 2023 impressively demonstrated how student engagement, data-driven planning, and sustainability can be combined successfully.
The Social Class Projects have been an integral part of all MBA, EMBA and Management Analytics programs at Mannheim Business School since 2006 and were also integrated into the Honors Program in 2023. Each class independently plans a project with a social, ecological, educational, or humanitarian objective—typically with a strong regional focus on Mannheim and the Rhine-Neckar metropolitan area. To date, approximately 170 projects have been completed, involving around 2,800 students, with a total fundraising volume of approximately €450,000.
