Alexandra Zimmermann is the New Equal Opportunity Commissioner

Alexandra Zimmermann (l.) und Veronique Embach sind seit 1. Januar 2026 die neuen Ansprechpersonen für Kolleg*innen aus Verwaltung, Bibliothek und UNIT.
Since Andrea Horn stepped down before the official end of her term, the University of Mannheim appointed Alexandra Zimmermann from among the female employees for the remaining duration until 31 December 2027. Veronique Embach remains Deputy Equal Opportunity Commissioner.
Zimmermann holds a Diplom in social pedagogy and has been working at the Department of Equal Opportunity and Social Diversity as a psychosocial counselor since fall 2024. She has many years of experience in social and life counseling, including at the BASF Social Foundation. As Equal Opportunity Commissioner, she is now responsible for employees in administration, the library, and University IT (UNIT).
The Equal Opportunity Commissioner is a person elected according to the equal opportunity act of Baden-Württemberg (Chancengleichheitsgesetz Baden-Württemberg) with specific legal responsibilities. The commissioner reports directly to university management and is not bound by instructions in carrying out these duties. Responsibilities include participation in hiring processes, involvement in committees, and counseling employees on reconciling work and family life.
