Captive Portal Test Phase: Request IP Addresses Faster

The University IT (UNIT) is testing a new captive portal in buildings L 15, L 9, and Schloss that allows university employees to quickly request a new fixed IP address to access the internet via LAN cable.

How the captive portal works:

  1. Connect: Connect your device to a LAN port at the University of Mannheim using a cable. Depending on your browser, you will be automatically redirected to the captive portal or a corresponding popup window will appear.
  2. Log in: Log in to the captive portal with your Uni-ID. You will then be redirected to the MyUni-ID website. Here you can request or manage your IP addresses under the LAN section.
  3. Wait: After requesting an IP address, you will usually receive a confirmation email within 24 hours. Until then, your LAN access is limited to MyUni-ID. After successful confirmation, you can use the internet without restrictions.

Note: If you are requesting an IP address for the first or second time, it is sufficient to fill out and submit the online application. From the third time onward, your signature is required.
