New Working Group “Sustainability at the University of Mannheim”

As a place of knowledge and education, the University of Mannheim feels a special responsibility for working on sustainable development. Since 2012, the university sources 100 percent of its power from renewable energies, complies with the highest energy standards when constructing new buildings and has an active energy management. In research and teaching, sustainability already plays an important role at all schools. In addition, the University of Mannheim now intends to focus particularly on the strategic development of its own sustainability measures in order to strengthen its role model function.

Here, the commitment of students, researchers and employees to make sustainable choices is crucial and the university takes ideas very seriously and welcomes any suggestions. In the spring semester of 2020, the university founded the working group “Sustainability at the University of Mannheim” in order to collect ideas and suggestions of all groups and to coordinate and further develop sustainability measures. The first meeting will take place on June 18.

Representatives of all schools and groups of research, administration and student representatives will participate in the working group on sustainability. The working group will be led by the Executive Vice President. Its members will include representatives of the Staff Council, the University IT, the general student committee at the university (AStA), the student initiatives, the Studierendenwerk Mannheim and the administration as well as the newly founded Sustainability Office.
