Wir freuen uns sehr Dr. Thomas Breugem, Tilburg University, Netherlands auf Einladung von Herrn Prof. Martin Glanzer, Ph.D., im Rahmen des CDSB-Seminars begrüßen zu dürfen.

Herr Dr. Thomas Breugem, Tilburg University, Netherlands wird einen Vortrag zum Thema „Beyond One-Size-Fits-All: Optimizing Differentiated Medicine Stockpiling Policies“ halten.

Der Vortrag findet am Mittwoch, den 25.02., von 12:30 bis 13:30 Uhr im Raum O 148 statt.

Abstract

Health supply chains operate in high-stakes contexts, where disruptions can directly endanger lives and resources are often scarce. In such settings, preparedness decisions such as the prepositioning of goods (e.g., medicines) are essential to ensure supply continuity and reduce vulnerabilities during crises. However, one cannot prepare for everything: effective preparedness requires balancing the costs of readiness against the risk of lacking access to critical goods when they are needed. In this talk, I will discuss a recent project on preparedness in the medicine context, in which we examine data-driven policies for maintaining strategic reserves of essential medicines in the Netherlands, and use optimization to identify optimal practical decision rules.

Speaker Bio

Thomas Breugem is an associate professor of supply chain management at the School of Economics and Management at Tilburg University,  part of the Zero Hunger Lab, and a visiting scholar at INSEAD’s Humanitarian Research Group. His research focuses on complex practical problems in humanitarian operations, access to health/medicine, and transportation logistics, with a particular focus on using mathematical optimization methods to improve operations and quantify strategic trade-offs.
