New thesis topic: Using Generative AI for Emotion Identification

Explore this exciting new thesis opportunity, where you can harness the potential of AI!

The Information Systems chair led by Prof. Dr. Armin Heinzl and the assistant professorship for management analytics led by Prof. Dr. Jana-Rebecca Rehse are excited to announce an interesting thesis opportunity. The topic of the thesis is „Emotion Identification with Generative AI: Evaluation and Validation of GPT-Classified Data for Advancing Mobile Health Applications“.

Large Language Models (LLMs) like Chat-GPT are increasingly well-suited for discerning emotions within text data, offering versatile applications in business and research. However, ensuring accuracy requires rigorous validation. Students will focus on validating Chat-GPTs emotion labels in short texts from a mobile health app and crafting a coding schema to guide future manual categorization by experts.

This opportunity is for Bachelor’s or Master’s students in Business Informatics or the Mannheim Master in Management program. Candidates should possess an independent work style for literature research and methodological as well as theoretical analyses. Additionally, open communication skills are essential for collaboration with experts from diverse disciplines.

As part of the „Data-Driven, mHealth Induced Behaviour Change“ initiative funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG), this thesis project offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research. Interested students are advised to read the whole description here and apply by sending a brief application, CV, and a recent transcript to Mechthild Pieper (pieper@uni-mannheim.de).
