Forthcoming Publication in Review of Accounting Studies

Jannis Bischof's article, “Manager Characteristics and the Informativeness of Banks’ Loan Loss Provisioning”, is forthcoming in Review of Accounting Studies.

The study finds that individual bank managers explain around 19% of the variation in loan loss provisions, emphasizing their significant discretion in financial reporting. This discretion is associated with opportunistic accounting behavior, such as delayed provisioning and reduced alignment with future credit losses.

The findings offer important insights for regulators and contribute to current debates on the role of discretion in bank accounting.
