Family Businesses Lead Job Creation in Germany

A study conducted by the ifm (Institut für Mittelstandsforschung) at the University of Mannheim, commissioned by the Stiftung Familienunternehmen in Munich, highlights this impact.
Within the last 10 years (2011–2020), Germany's 26 largest family businesses have created 837,000 new jobs worldwide, while the 26 largest DAX companies created in the meantime only 390.000.
The difference is even bigger regarding the number of jobs created in Germany. Around 32% of the jobs created by the family businesses were jobs on the domestic market (around 267.000 jobs), compared with only around 12% for the Dax companies (around 48.000 jobs).
The Schwarz Group, owner of the Lidl and Kaufland supermarket chains, created the most jobs with 190,000. It was followed by Volkswagen (160,000), Bosch (92,000), and the Aldi Group (84,000).
