Prof. Stefan Reichelstein and Prof. Dr. Gunther Glenk (MISES) are involved in the ELCH project.

Under the leadership of Daimler Buses, the aim is to develop practical and economical fully electrically powered coaches in collaboration with renowned research institutes and practitioners from the industry.

For the ELCH (Electrified Coach) project, Daimler Buses has joined forces with renowned research institutes and industry practitioners to accelerate development. The goal: fully electric coaches by the end of the decade. To this end, the project is also receiving funding from the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection.

While fully electric buses have already been in use for some time in local transport, this is not yet the case in long-distance transport. Requirements for a long range in long-distance transport, flexibility in use, intermediate charging for batteries, high payloads and space requirements for passengers and luggage pose major challenges. In addition, economic efficiency must be ensured for the operators.

For this purpose, MISES scientists Prof. Stefan Reichelstein, Ph.D. and Prof. Gunther Glenk, Ph.D., will conduct an economic analysis from the operator's point of view and thus make an important contribution to the concept definition. This should ensure the marketability of coaches with battery-electric powertrains already in the development phase. The competitiveness of these concepts will be compared with conventional coaches. About 430,000 euros will flow into Mannheim for the realization of this sub-project.
