Martin Glanzer New Assistant Professor of Operations Management

With Dean Joachim Lutz, we warmly welcome Martin Glanzer to the University of Mannheim Business School and congratulate him on his appointment as Assistant Professor of Operations Management.

Glanzer's research focuses on the modelling and (approximate) solution of risk-averse decision problems. In addition to quantitative finance topics, he deals with applications in revenue management and sustainable operations management, among others.

Martin Glanzer completed his Bachelor's and Master's degree in financial and actuarial mathematics at the Graz University of Technology in Austria respectively and was a professional ice hockey player in the two highest Austrian divisions until his 20s. Semesters abroad took him to KTH Stockholm and the Politecnico di Milano. He then wrote his dissertation in the field of Operations Research at the University of Vienna, for which he was also awarded the 2020 Dissertation Prize of the Austrian Society for Operations Research. As a visiting Doctoral student, he spent several months at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. In addition to his academic research and teaching activities, Martin Glanzer has also gained several years of experience as a quantitative analyst in risk management at an investment bank. Before joining the Business School of the University of Mannheim, he spent two years as a postdoctoral researcher at the Institute of Business Administration at the University of Zurich. He spent most of 2022 as a Visiting Scholar at the UCLA Anderson School of Management in Los Angeles.

Starting this semester, assistant professor Glanzer will hold the compulsory course Decision Analysis: Business Analytics II for students of the Mannheim Master in Management.

“It is of course a great honour to be able to work in research and teaching at the leading German business school. The strong Operations Area offers me an excellent environment for my research ambitions. In teaching, my primary ambition is to provide students with a structured approach to business decision-making problems. In an increasingly data-driven business world, it is essential for future decision-makers to have a solid basic understanding of analytics and, above all, to be able to ask critical questions about automated decision-making processes,” says Martin Glanzer.

We are very pleased that Assistant Professor Martin Glanzer will be adding his expertise to the “Operations Management” department from 1 February 2023 and wish him a good start in Mannheim!
