Prof. Albrecht Emeritus

He held the Chair of Insurance Economics since 1989

Professor Dr. Peter Albrecht retired at the end of the fall/winter semester 2021/2022. Since 1989, he has held the Chair of General Business Administration, Risk Theory, Portfolio Management and Insurance Economics – the oldest chair in Germany which focused on the business administration of insurance. At the end of January, he was personally bid farewell by Dean Joachim Lutz at the Dean's Office of the Business School, who took this opportunity to thank him for the decade-long of commitment to the School in the areas of teaching and research.

Prof. Albrecht was dean of the Business School at the University of Mannheim for two terms, as well as dean of Student Affairs from 2007–2010. He was involved in the graduate college “Allocation on Financial and Goods Markets” and in the Collaborative Research Center “Rationality, Decision-making Behavior and Economic Modeling”. From 2008–2014, he was a member of the Senate of the University of Mannheim, and from 2002–2017 he was also the managing director of the Institute of Insurance Science. The institute organized the interdisciplinary Mannheim Annual Insurance Conference, which took place for the 45th time in 2021.

Prof. Albrecht also held other positions, such as member of the Executive Committee of the International Actuarial Approach for Financial Risks Group (AFIR), Deputy Chairman of the German Society for Insurance and Financial Mathematics (DGVFM) and a member of the Board of Directors of the German Association for Insurance Science (DVfVW). Prof. Albrecht is a co-founder of the German AFIR Group and was its scientific director until 2003. He is also a founding board member and former board member of the German Association of Actuaries and was a member of the Commission on Social Security (Herzog Commission) of the CDU.

As the author, co-author and editor of over ten book publications and author/co-author of more than 150 national and international scientific publications, including publications in twenty-three different scientific journals, Prof. Albrecht was very active in research. The focus of his research was risk management and insurance, investment management as well as financial and actuarial mathematics.
